I think Social Media will change the way we live our lives...it will at some point change society around the globe like it has been doing in the Middle East. A lot of people say the Western World is not oppressed, but I disagree with that, and I know a lot of people that would agree with, yes we may not be as oppressed as the countries of the middle east; but we are and you can see it.


I would add that video chatting will become a lot more popular, and the technologies will change so that you can do more the just a one-on-one chat, creating places where more people can talk about issues and other interests. This would connect the world like nothing as since the 90's when the Internet took over everyones lives.


As for technologies that will gain in popularity or emerge I wouldn't be surprised if smartphones become a lot smarter, as they become more widely popular. The social aspect of the phone will change and will become more like a social pocketbook. If anything emerges , although it sounds odd, I will say robots by 2025.....yes robots, I don't think we're far off now.

Do you think that social media has the potential to bring about real social change?

Many wonder if social media has or can create a change in society. My reply would be YES!! Within the last 4 years we have witnessed the power of social media in society and have witnessed a lot just this year. 


Without social media, Honsi Mubarak (Egypt),  Zine El Abidine Ben Ali and Mohamed Ghannouchi (Tunisia) would still be in power;  Muammar Gaddafi (Libya) wouldn't have been killed in the civil war between his followers and the Libyians that opposed him; and  Bahar al-Assad / Abdullah al-Ahmar (leaders of Syria),  Ali Abdullah Saleh (Yemen), King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa would not be fighting to stay in power, and listening to the people. The Arab Spring is the largest form of organization by social media, this was extremely visible in the Egyptian Revolution, as it was the most successful. The Arab Spring has now continued and is still spreading across the Arab World, but now the leaders have realized how they can stop...well at least slow down the protest and uprisings; which is by shutting down the entire internet grid in the countries when too much traffic is viewing the "Uprising" social pages.


Now we see in the North America, mostly in the United States, people getting fed up with the way the economic structure has been taken advantage by people with power, and ultimately creating the greatest recession or economic downturn since "The Great Depression". Occupy Wall Street was first organized on social media sites, mainly Facebook and Twitter months before September 17th, the day the 99% took to the streets of New York City. Now you see Occupy Toronto, Madrid, Montreal, London(UK), Sydney, and many other cities around the world joining in, as everyone starts to realize that we are all the 99%. The mainstream media says its just a bunch of kids out on the streets because they don't have a job, but when you go through Social Media you quickly realize that is not the case; it's students, parents, grandparents, veterans, really anyone who is not the 1%. The social media aspect of the Occupy Movement is unlike anything I have ever seen in media, you have Facebook groups for each encampment, then each city has a twitter account, to quickly update the mass', especially when each city follows each other, then you have Occupy Together sites where all Occupies can go and talk and share their thoughts.


So do I think that social media has the potential to bring out real social change? Yes I do! It is evident that has already started to and will only grow as more people realize what they can do with the 5 year old form of media.

Social Medi for the WIN!!

Social Media is definetly here to stay! It is by far the biggest revolution since the Industrial Revolution, nothing has happened around the world before like what is happening right now with people in different countries standing up for what they believe in, and this happening in countries that are barley allowed to watch television.

I think it will only become more powerful, and start to change the world in Europe and North America, it seems like the Middle East is just starting to catch up to our freedoms, with cost of many lives; but the world around us in our Countries are already changing, and you can see that by looking on social networking sites. More and more people want the truth, they want to know what exactly their governments are doing, and why there are so many things hidden from them that we the people find out in some way and then is spread over the social media.

So I definetly think it's here to stay.

Welcome to my Blog. I have started this blog for school, one of my courses requires it, but I have a feeling I will continue it after this semester. I'm in school of Multimedia Design, and hope to start my own Skate/BMX/Boarding company. I race cars in the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship during the summer. So that's just a little bit myself.
